Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam,it is located in the northern part of the country near to the border with China. The population is about 2 to 3 million people, and there is a major river called the Red River Song Hong which runs through the city. There are also many lakes in Hanoi, giving it the name City of Lakes. Hanoi is a shoppers paradise for silk, lacquer ware, wood, custom tailoring and other Asian inspired design. Artisans and craftsmen have set up shop in the Old Quarter for generations, and each street is named after the item sold there. There are two major shopping malls in Hanoi, Trang Tien Plaza and the new-built Vincom City Towers. Both are located in the Hoan Kiem District of the city. There are about 36 streets in the Old Quarter and walking in the Old Quarter is like a maze. Trang Tien is one of the upmarket shopping centre that you can find close by to the Hoan Kien Lake it has about 5 shopping levels . The most beautiful market is Dong Xuan market in the northern part of the Old Quarter every corner, people sell literally every thing. You will find fresh herbs, home made noodles, juicy pineapple slices, minced meat, garlic, all kinds of exotic fruits like durian or dragon fruit, but also rather strange specialties such as duck heads or pork feet. Like every where else in Vietnam, traffic in Hanoi is dominated by an incredible amount of motorbikes. The Bao Khanh area, west of Hoan Kiem Lake, has perhaps the best established scene. The Old Quarter is also a good place to hang around in the evenings. There are numerous cafes from all ranges. Bac Ma is the oldest temple in Hanoi and crammed into the narrow streets of the Old Quarter, it offers a glimpse into what the inner city life must have been like a century ago, before the advent of Communism versus the Western World. Though dating back to 1010, the ancient temple was restored in 2000 on its 990th anniversary. It is still a major spot of worship locals. The puppet show was first showed in North Vietnam, and the best place to see it is at the Municipal Theatre in Hanoi. They play it at a small pool inside the theatre, from behind a curtain. From there, with long bamboo sticks that go under the water they move the puppets from below, making them look as if they were floating on the water.
