In this video we’ll compare the performance difference between two laptops running an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti and 970M. The 1050Ti is newer, but is the older 970M still worth considering in a laptop? We’ll perform some gaming benchmarks and see how well each graphics card does in a series of tests to help you choose between the 1050Ti and 970M for your next laptop, or help you decide if upgrading from the 970M to the 1050Ti is worth it.

    I think this is a RAM bottleneck.
    My brother has 1050ti, I have 970m. The Witcher 3 runs same on both, but GTA V runs terrible on mine.
    But I dont believe it's 970m worse than 1050ti, it's more about RAM because my Ram is 8gb (4x2) 1600mhz DDR3, he has 2400mhz 16gb (8x2) DDR4.
    I really believe the FPS difference is caused by Ram bottleneck.
    970m 6gb vs 1050ti 4gb would be the one good comparison.

    I used to have:


    1- Acer Aspire(*if I'm not mistaken) with dedicated AMD card 64MB - back during my college days - played NFS most wanted very well


    2- ASUS - not a gaming series, but with a dedicated NVidia graphic - played Juiced HIN well, but can barely handle Assassin's Creed 1


    3- ASUS ROG with 960M (15" laptop) - not a very good buy I would say


    4- Then upgraded to ASUS ROG G752JT with 970M - Stick with this for a long time before upgrading to:


    5- MSI GF63 thin 9SC with 1650MaxQ


    6- And finally, now with Illegear Laguna SE with RTX 2070 MaxP


    Looking forward for the new upcoming Ampere 3000 series laptop

    A 970 desktop is better than 1650 desktop but a 970M is not better than a 1050ti mobile...WOW the (M) series graphics are terrible!

    Oh, you're benchmarking with 8x MSAA on a 15" laptop? Interesting...

    Shadow of Mordor requires 6GB VRAM for Ultra settings with the Ultra textures pack, but the 970M has 3GB and 1050Ti 4GB. It'd be good if you pay attention to the games' settings and menu descriptions. It'd make a tremendous difference if you look up and follow a graphical settings optimization guide for each specific game you're testing, so you're not hammering the hardware for a graphical feature that's practically indistinguishable. After all you're not comparing top end GPUs to have to convenience to just dial ultra and push all the sliders.

    I bought a Asus FX504GE model with 1050Ti, i5-8300H, 8GB DDR5 2666mhz RAM, 128GB NVMe SSD + Seagate firecuda 1TB SSHD. Recent AAA titles play quite well in medium to high settings.

    for 1050ti(mobile) , it is IPMPOSSIBLE to get 54 fps in gta 5 with msaa-x8 (in ultra or very high)

    I use my 970m 3gb all the time. Had it since release and I still love it. Cant afford to upgrade, so making do with what I have. To be fair, even the latest games I can still play on it. I use RTSS to lock them down to 30fps, put pre-rendered frames to 2 in Nvidia Control Panel and they run the same as PS4 equivalents at 1080p, but look nicer, with minimal judder due to the pre-rendered frames. Cant really complain :)

    Laptop will always be less powerful than a desktop. $1000+ i could build a stonger desktop. But laptop does have that portability.

    I got my sisters laptop because she never used it i7 4810mq 8gb of ram and the 6gb 970m. My desktop has a 1050 ti in it but the CPU is an fx 4350 so I’m really loving this laptop right now. Lol
