DPI in printing stands for dots per inch. A higher DPI means a higher resolution and therefore a higher dot density. This will give you a higher print quality.
300 dpi is the standard print quality a lot of professional printers will ask for and is suitable for most commercial applications.
The problem with Canva is that you when you download the PNG it only produces a 120 DPI image or 96 DPI image for JPG.
You can check the dpi of a picture by right-clicking the file name - properties - details. You can then see the horizontal and vertical dpi.
Alternatively, you can open in Paint - click file - properties and you can see this JPG is only 96 DPI.
According to Canva we can get 300 dpi images by selecting the PDF Print option and then downloading. However, if we have uploaded low-resolution pictures to the images it will still result in low quality.
What we need to do is take this "PDF - Print file" and convert it to high-quality JPG.
Firstly click download. Then select "PDF print" and click download.
If you are sending it to a professional printer they will need the crop marks and bleed.
Then head over to pdf2jpg.net/.
Choose a PDF file to upload it.
THEN select "Excellent 300 DPI".
Then click "Convert PDF to JPG. And download that file.
Now when we open the image in paint the jpg will be 300 DPI.
We also need to convert the file from RGB to CMYK.
You can do this by going to and converting your image. Upload your file, selected JPeg, you can use the default settings for the rest and click start.
There you go. Now you should have a print-ready image in 300 dpi with a CMYK colour profile.

How can I do this for Canva mobile app?
ردحذفSo helpful! QUESTION -- how do you keep a transparent background, like for T-shirt and mug designs? Once I create a PNG (transparent background) and convert to PDF for all the DPI and CMYK fixes, don't I lose the transparency?
ردحذفThanks in advance!
This has been very helpful and solves a big problem soo that I can send something to the printer that I created. except that I don't see the horizontal and verticle DPI when I right click on the image and click on properties/details like you demonstrated in the video and PAINt will not open a PDF file so I could not check it there. After you do the conversion though, you do see the 300DPI resolution - Excellent
ردحذفsimple to follow great video. thank you so much.
ردحذفthis video helped me so much, you explain so good! thank you!!!
ردحذفThis was gold.
ردحذفThank you Seb, but i have a doubt! How can i convert canva images into png files? I am asking because in jpegs there is a background which i cannot print on other colours
ردحذفNeed some help here! I have digital images with transparent backgrounds that I want to print and upload to Redbubble. They only accept PNG, JPEG, or GIF files. PNG files allow transparent backgrounds but are only 72dpi (or ppi) and can't convert to CMYK. JPEGs can do both these things but can't keep the transparent background. So I'm stuck! I'd try selling on a different platform than Redbubble but they're either expensive or have other flaws that make Redbubble seem like the better choice right now. Anyone else have this issue?
ردحذفOutstanding video! In less than 4 minutes you taught us a great way of getting high-quality images and then you taught us how to get outstanding color. Thank you very very much!
ردحذفIt's extremely annoying that CANVA does not offer the 300 DPI CMYK resolution that their paying users want. It's why I am likely to drop using CANVA when my subscription runs out. JPEG files don't have an option to remove the background like PNG files do. Do you have a tutorial for how to create 300 DPI CMYK PNG files?
ردحذفThank you!
ردحذفSo helpful! Thank you!
ردحذفThank you! Great video!
ردحذفquestion: when i download the .pdf , in canva i cannot select transparent background
ردحذفGreat stuff. Have you got anything with how canva can be used with photoshop to do this?
ردحذفthank you very much! this was really helpful!
ردحذفhow do you get it higher than 300 DPI? I need 350+Dpi
ردحذفHas anyone else gotten stuck at the “preparing your design” bar then it just goes away and doesn’t change the image to the pdf printable
ردحذفTHANK YOU!!!!!!
ردحذفHi, I'm from the Philippines and I just wanna ask if let's say I want to open my shop on Etsy selling printables. Can I do this on my printables and sell it on Etsy? One thing more is what print size will be used that can be printed in either portrait or landscape sizes in Canva? So that I will only upload 1 size like other sellers do but available to print in other ratios and sizes. I noticed that, If the photo is a landscape and I want to do it as a portrait in Canva, it doesn’t fit the whole photo. That's what I'm worried about. And also all printable sellers on Etsy say that landscape-printed photos can also be printed in a portrait in any ratio or different sizes and even in any international size. I want to know how to do that too? Can you make a video of how to do this? Thanks for your help in advance.

ردحذفThank you! You've solved why my print proof came back with the images so pixelated. All fixed now thanks to this great video and no need to wait for my designer on such an easy job :)
ردحذفYou are a God 🙌🙌🙌🙌
ردحذفThank you so much! That was exactly what I was looking for. Already subscribed ;)
ردحذفThank you so much for your very helpful video! 💜 However I'm having a problem, is it normal that my pdf size is 10mb but when I converted to pdf2jpg.net the size lessen to 848kb even tho i chose the highest dpi? :( How can i solve this?
ردحذفPdf is 200 dpi not 300. Once you convert it online they simply duplicate the pixels to create 300 dpi image. They aren't high resolution. And couldn't be used for printing
ردحذفHi, Thank you. Don't we need PNG file to have a transparent image for T-shirts etc? If we download pdf then we will have background.
ردحذفI did try the pdf2jpg but there was no way to keep a transparent background in Canva when saving as pdfprint...any go around with that?
ردحذفThank you for your helpful content. Cheers!
ردحذفWhy aren't all tutorials like this one! This was so helpful, thank you!

ردحذفbut what if i dont want to have background images , when i select pdf i dont have option to remove background imges , please help
ردحذفHelpful video Seb. But, I have a dilemma I need help with. After converting the file to Jpeg and then converting from RGB to CYMK, I'm left with a Jpeg file and I need a PDF file for Ingramspark's printing. I used a free online converter to convert back to PDF, but the dimensions changed. How do I keep the same dimensions when converting back to PDF after I followed the two steps in your video. Ingramspark rejected my book cover for printing due to the PDF dimensions not being the size specified. Please HELP!
ردحذفGreat...however I still need a transparent background and when we convert it it has a color background now...ideas?
ردحذفThis has been doing my head in for days and you have just explained it all in 4 minutes.
ردحذفgreat tutorial thank you
ردحذفHi! Thanks for the info! I’m wondering tho how do I get a transparent background? Even when I convert the pdf print to jpg or png, when I upload it to a tshirt website there’s still the image background. 🙏
ردحذفamazing thank you
ردحذفI know I'm late to the party but BLESS YOU. I could not for the life of me figure out why my Canva images were coming out pixelated. You explained it well and those converter sites are amazing. Thank you!

ردحذفThank you. You're very much helpful. <3
ردحذفCan ı ask a question? Although it says images in tiff format it will give best results for printing why you chose jpeg format? Isnt there a diffrence between tiff and jpeg?
ردحذفCan you tell me how you get this to be a transparent file? Canva PDF does not have the option to make it a transparent back ground
