Canva tutorial: how to lock design elements
Following on from the first of my Canva 'Small but Mighty' quick tutorials I want to introduce you to the 'lock' feature 🔐.
I want to share with you 3 main benefits of using the 'lock' feature in Canva -
1️⃣ To stop elements moving around on a template
You'll find that when you're designing in Canva there will be times when you want to move around some elements in your template but not others.
To move elements you first of all need to select them with your cursor.
However, when you do this you will also select elements of your design that you DON'T want to move.
By locking these elements in place on your template you will be able to select the elements you DO want to move whilst leaving the others where they are.
2️⃣ Sharing templates
Whether you work with a Canva team, with a client on Canva or even with students there may be times when you want to ensure certain elements of a design aren't changed accidentally (a very easy thing to do!)
Use the lock feature to secure these elements in place on your template so that no accidental changes can be made.
This will save you a whole lot of time and frustration!
3️⃣ Copy and paste
🧞♀️ Here's a little ninja tip for you!
If you want to copy and paste certain elements of a template into a fresh new page first select them with your cursor. Then right click on your mouse and click on 'Copy'. Go to your new page, right click again and select 'Paste' to paste those elements onto your page.
However, as we discovered above there will be times when you select elements you don't want to copy and paste.
Use the 'lock' feature to ensure that you don't select any elements with your cursor that you DON'T want to copy.
It's so easy, isn't it?!
Was this lock feature something you already knew about? Let me know in the comments section below.

Thank you this was EXACTLY what I've been wanting to learn how to do. You just saved me OODLES of time. Thanks again!
ردحذفHi Nicky, thanks for your tips and tricks. I find them extremely useful. I'm trying to create an animated design with some text and vectors but i'd like the text to remain fixed. Is there a way to do this in Canva? I have a pro account. Thank you!
ردحذفOoh, this is fabulous! Thanks so much for the video. I'm creating a big pdf in Canva. Will this stop someone copying it?
ردحذفHi, can you please tell me how to lock an element so it doesnt follow with the animation - as for example tectonic? It can be a logo I just dont want to move around.
ردحذفThanks just what I needed to see about the copy feature
ردحذفHow do you unlock elements that seemingly were locked by Canva when I selected that template? It's as if Canva doesn't want users to change the elements. I have a pro account. Thanks!
